Becoming a Martian

Welcome Viewers to my blog,

Today we are going to take a risky turn and tell some survival tips on how to become a Martian on Mars. Mars is a very dangerous place to stay in so people might not want to live there. One wrong mistake with your shelter could get you killed because you cannot breathe on Mars. Also, the food and shelter are one of the biggest problems that awaits you on Mars.

Here are some survival tips that might help you a lot when you get to Mars in the future. When Mars will become one of the most loved places in the world. Only if it's not as deadly I might come there but come back after months there.

  1. What do some people want to visit and explore now in the 21st Century?
Because some people don’t want to wait very long to go to Mars then only stay for a
few months and come back about after new year pass on Earth. And it’s kinda unsafe
to rush to get to Mars first because there may be a failed design somewhere in the
space ship so they need to take their time.
  1.    How long would it take to get from Earth to Mars?
It would take about 21 months. It would take 9 months to get there and 3 months of
stay and 9 months going back to Earth.
  1.   Why can missions to Mars only leave and return every 26 months?
Because it is closer to get to Earth and if they went early it would take a very long
time to make it back to Earth. Only with the technology we have today.
  1.   What does the expression, ‘Boots on Mars’ mean?
Its a metaphor for humans finally stepping foot in the first-ever planet they went
to. Not including the moon.
  1. What year might we see ‘Boots on Mars?’
People might arrive to Mars before 2025 because most people believe that NASA
and Space X will make it as soon as 2024.
  1.  Find the GLOSSARY (P30) and copy the meanings for each of the following:

toxic salts: chemicals containing metals and acids that are poisonous to people.
iron oxide: a compound that contains iron and is similar to rust.
kPa: A unit of measurement for pressure
desalination plant: A place where water containing salt (usually seawater) is turned into
freshwater.
Martian rovers: Robotic vehicles that travel across the surface of Mars.
solar particles:
Pressurised: particles that come from the sun and contain radiation.
Orbits: The curved “flight paths” that objects follow in space around the star or planet

  1. Complete the following information table with numbered key facts under the
  2. appropriate headings:

Challenge
Possible Solutions
Oxygen Challenge
The atmosphere is %95 carbon dioxide
and it could be deadly breathing on
Mars.
We could use electricity to split the
carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide
and oxygen so we can breathe on Mars.
Water Challenge
It doesn’t rain on Mars and there is no
rivers and a lake on Mars.
Try to filter the dirty ice on Mars
then use it as an advantage for water.
Food Challenge
The settlers will have to bring their
food but it would be a waste of a space
ship to bring food in the rocket.
Try to make food on Mars and grow
some things. Some people tried to use
human poop as fertilizer and it might
just work on Mars. All you need is to
make water just meltwater on Mars and
use the water to water your plants.
They may need to be filtered because
they are toxic.
Shelter Challenge
The atmosphere on Mars is a hundred
times thinner than Earth so it will be
poisonous to breathe on Mars.
The shelter challenge is one of the
most import to keep you alive. This one
will be hard but it might just be easy to
make. First, you will need locked doors
that cover the whole ground not letting
anything in. Then you will need something
like a tent or like a house but it must be
built to not leak any air out or let any
air in. It also needs to be sand storm
proof and tornado proof. Because they
might appear one day when you’re on
Mars. I also figure out that its called
dust storm, not the sand storm.
Next after when you enter there must
be a thing to purify the air before you
come in then you take off your space
suit like in the Martian movie. Next, you
open the door and close it then you are
safe from the outside.

Surround this image with 10 facts about Mars (find these under the heading ‘Meet
Mars’)
1 Mars founded by one of the Greeks called it the Ares because it was red like the
greek god of war Ares. The roman called the red planet Mars as the name we all
know today about the red planet.
2 Mars may look red and lots of people assume that it was very hot like me but never
judge a book by its cover. Because it was actually cold I was shocked when I heard
that Mars was cold the whole time. And Venus is the planet that looked cold and also
other planets. But Venus was actually hot. That was a fact I didn’t even know about
for years.
3 Mars and Earth have approximately the same amount of landmass just a little
different from one another.
Mars has the tallest mountain in the solar system but not taller than outside of our
solar system.
4 Mars have a dust storm and it’s not very rare but it occurs often in Mars that’s
why it’s difficult to live in Mars.
5 Some things on Mars has fallen to Earth and some of the humans who got some of
the pieces didn’t notice have valuable they are.
6 Only 18 Mars mission successfully worked to send in the Mars rover to investigate
Mars and the gravity and how Mars work. The rest failed was lost for some reason.
Luckily they only sent in 40 not more because it was have been a great failed.
7 Mars is one of the smallest planets (not including Plato) after Mercury.
8 Fun fact Mars is a bit longer than Earth and it’s about 25 hours every day on Mars
but it’s about 24 hours and 37 minutes and 22 seconds a bit longer on Mars so a year
on Mars is approximately 600 days every year.
9 Another fun fact about Mars is that it takes approximately 20 minutes on Mars
to send a message back to Earth. And approximately 20 minutes to send a message
to Mars.
10 In the past a very very long time ago scientists found out that Mars was
habitable
and humans could have lived there. They found it out because of ice and frozen
rivers
around Mars. They think that there was a lot of water and maybe land and grass on
Mars waiting for u but now it’s known as the red hot planet.

Parihaka Poem

Welcome Viewers to my blog,

Today I'm going to show you my Parihaka poem. I forget what it called but you have to write down the word then write three words like if we are doing Parihaka. Then e are first going to write three p words. You don't have to do it in order or not.

I got some help with the words because it has to relate to Parihaka which was hard. I don't know much about Parihaka but I did learn a lot of history in the past week we have been learning. Most of them were easy but some of them were hard.

Here is my messy Parihaka
